ZyMot – A New Method for Sperm Selection
In vitro fertilization begins with the insemination of the eggs with sperm. The quality of the future embryo is therefore largely determined by the quality of both sperm and eggs. Unlike eggs, sperm are selected before treatment to ensure that only the best ones are used. This is especially crucial for fertilization using the ICSI method, where the question always arises: Which is the best sperm?
In addition to standard sperm preparation methods, we have now introduced a new selection technique: the ZyMot chamber. ZyMot is a very gentle preparation method for ICSI treatment, designed to better mimic the natural selection process compared to conventional techniques.
The goal of the ZyMot chamber is to select sperm with better integrity—those with good motility, normal morphology, reduced DNA fragmentation, and lower levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Various studies have shown a positive effect, while others have found no significant advantage—but also no disadvantage—compared to conventional preparation methods. Our internally collected data suggests that this technique may benefit certain patients. The decision to use this method in your case will be made by our biology team based on your medical history and sperm analysis.

Add-Ons:
When discussing assisted reproductive technologies, the topic of add-ons often comes up. These are supplementary methods intended to enhance standard treatments and improve outcomes. In Switzerland, this is a widely debated topic, recently addressed at a meeting of the Swiss Society for Clinical Embryologists (SWICE). The clinical benefits of most add-ons are not yet scientifically well-established, yet many are still commonly used and charged as additional services.
The ZyMot chamber falls under the category of microfluidic devices, which have been classified by the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) as potentially beneficial add-ons. As a result, we have integrated this option into our practice. If indicated in your case, it will be used at no additional cost.
